Here’s the latest updates on 30 construction projects

Work continues on school bond projects. The school year began with the opening of a new Ogden Elementary School in August 2019. And in January 2020, the new building for Vancouver iTech Preparatory opened on the Washington State University Vancouver campus.

Contractors, subcontractors and construction workers have continued working while practicing social distancing and following state safety guidelines.

Remodel and expansion projects

  • Columbia River High School – Construction management bid awarded in May 2020; expansion and remodel to begin this spring
  • Early Childhood Special Education assessment center – Will move to remodeled McLoughlin classroom pod; remodel scheduled to begin this summer
  • Eisenhower Elementary – Construction of two new classroom additions underway
  • Felida Elementary – Construction of five new classroom additions and remodeled restrooms underway
  • Franklin Elementary – Expanded parking lot, improved drop-off and pick-up areas and classroom additions underway
  • Fruit Valley Community Learning Center – Four new classroom additions underway
  • Harney Elementary – Four new classroom additions completed; secure entry and Family-Community Resource center completed
  • Lake Shore Elementary – New accessible playground and fitness path; construction starting summer 2020
  • Lieser School – Programs will move to remodeled Marshall building; remodel scheduled to begin this summer 
  • Sacajawea Elementary – Remodel and expansion under construction; completion November 2020
  • Salmon Creek Elementary – Two new classroom additions completed summer 2019
  • Vancouver School of Arts and Academics – Bid in July/August for remodel and expansion 

New and replacement schools

  • Fir Grove/Vista – Construction of new replacement school underway; completion scheduled for January 2021 
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School – Construction ongoing; completion scheduled for fall 2020
  • Marshall Elementary – New school will be completed summer 2020
  • McLoughlin Middle School – New school will be completed summer 2020
  • Ogden Elementary – New replacement school opened August 2019
  • Truman Elementary – Construction nearly complete, move-in underway, completion set for fall 2020 
  • Twenty-fifth Avenue elementary school – Design work underway for new school; naming process to begin fall 2020
  • Vancouver Innovation, Technology and Arts Elementary School – New completion date scheduled for fall 2022
  • Vancouver iTech Preparatory – New school opened January 2020
  • Walnut Grove – Construction underway; completion expected for 2021

Upgrades and improvements

  • Hazel Dell Elementary School: Construction to begin summer 2020 on Family-Community Resource Center renovation, roof replacement and HVAC upgrades
  • Hough Elementary School: Addition of HVAC/air conditioning and replacement of windows to begin summer 2020; construction of Family-Community Resource Center renovation and secure entry will go to bid late spring 2020
  • Jason Lee Middle School: Secure entry, special education classroom remodel and HVAC improvements underway
  • Jefferson Middle School: Design work is underway for parking lot safety improvements 
  • Kiggins Bowl Stadium: Upgrades to stadium, concessions, restrooms and new turf; construction expected to begin fall 2020
  • Lincoln Elementary School: Renovation of Family-Community Resource Center scheduled for fall/winter 2020; secure entry and exterior lighting improvements scheduled for summer 2020 
  • Minnehaha Elementary School: Addition of secure entry scheduled for summer 2020
  • Roosevelt Elementary School: Renovation of Family-Community Resource Center, secure entry; construction to begin summer 2020  

All school construction and upgrade projects are paid for with funding from the bond measure passed by voters in February 2017.
