Attendance Counts!

Did you know?

Sacajawea and Vancouver Public Schools receive funding for the school year based on your child’s attendance the first three days of the school year! This process is called “count” and it is imperative that your student is present at school the first three days so they can be counted and schools can receive accurate funding that truly represents the number of students the school serves.

As you plan your summer vacations please make sure that your student is back for August 31, 2016, the first day of school!

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Building this habit starts with the first day of school so they can learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance is critical to school success.

All absences must be excused within three school days after the student returns to school. To excuse an absence at Sacajawea Elementary School you can call our attendance line at 313-1434 or email or attendance clerk at Cheryl.Sawyer@vansd.org .

Absences can be excused for the following reasons:

  •  Illness ( a doctor’s note is required if absent for 6 days or more)
  • Health care appointments (as much as possible, try to schedule these outside the school day)
  • Emergencies
  • Religious Activity
  • Court Appearance
  • Pre-arranged approved activity
  • All absences, whether excused or unexcused, become a problem for student success. Ten or more unexcused absences within the school year will result in the school district enforcing the compulsory school attendance law through truancy court.
