Sacajawea is a lucky school because of the kids we get to serve, the staff that works here and the community that volunteers their time to make Sacajawea a better place.

Recently, I asked Brianna Welburn, who writes our PTA newsletters to help me with the spring break newsletter as we recognize some of our many volunteers that make Sacajawea great. Brianna is a five time Pulitzer Prize winner for her achievements in PTA newsletter composition. She has a great sense of humor, is great to work with, easy going and puts kids first! Check out her work below with a little of Mr. Bond’s humor added here and there:

Recently, despite the rain and mud, Sacajawea’s Weed Pulling Team picked up trash and pulled weeds from the school flower beds. That along with the daffodils, planted last fall, which are blooming, means the school property looks a whole lot more awesome these days.

If you walk or drive to school you might have met Stephanie Seley. Not only does she smile at eight in the morning while managing Sacajawea’s busiest crosswalk and intersection while trying not to get run over, but in the afternoon after working inside the school, she is back out at the crosswalk making sure students get across the street safely. In her spare time Stephanie is PTA secretary, designs and maintains the Sacajawea PTA website and she can also be found pulling weeds and picking up trash as part of Sacajawea’s Weed Pulling Team.

Another smiling face you might have encountered in the morning at Sacajawea is Julie Hutchins. Julie is a door greeter on Mondays and a permanent volunteer in Mrs. Hoffman’s first grade class and Mrs. Andres-Bye’s classroom. She also makes some pretty delicious coconut cookies.

A few more smiling face you might have met in the morning at Sacajawea are the door greeters and sign in sheet
managers. Karie Rinker and Teddy Raines are two of our smiley greeters. When they aren’t handing out apple stickers, they both also are our PTA Co-treasurers. They helped with the Spring PTA Fundraisers and are classroom volunteers. They are occasional Friday Folder helpers. Lora Harrell, 10 time bulletin board blue ribbon award winner, the best in the business, also meets and greets our students and staff Friday mornings with a smile and a positive greeting. Lora along with Brandy Dyment are our up and coming PTA Co-Presidents. Lora is what every student, parent and staff member needs to start their day.

Thank you to Angela Arnett for once again organizing a very productive Spring Fundraiser and a special thank you to Heather Lindberg who has organized our family partnership nights with our neighborhood
restaurants.

We also have some pretty amazing Friday folder helpers. This dream team is made up of Brandy Dyment, Julie Paradise, Brianna Welburn, and Katie Jefferies. Many of these parents also volunteer in our classrooms and help out with a variety of events.

Sandra and David Newcomb are an extraordinary couple who are here religiously helping with greeting students and helping with 3rd grade math.

Last but not least, our amazing lunch buddies and Share food bag partnership. Currently, we have 19 lunch buddies that are having lunch each week with a student from Sacajawea. Each week our students can’t wait to see their lunch buddy and enjoy lunch and a game!

Thanks to our Share House partnership. We send home 26 bags of food every week to our families that qualify for assistance. We have 4th and 5th grade students who volunteer their time to bag and deliver the food to the classrooms each week. We couldn’t do it without them!

Thank you all so very much and have a wonderful and well deserved spring break.

Thank you everyone,
Travis and Brianna
