Letter from the Principal
“Simple Gifts” is a Shaker song that was written and composed by Elder Joseph Brackett, in 1848. The song became world-famous when composer Aaron Copland featured it as part of the score of Martha Graham’s ballet, Appalachian Spring. The lyrics are especially meaningful as we enter our season of giving:
‘Tis the gift to be loved and that love to return,
‘Tis the gift to be taught and a richer gift to learn,
And when we expect of others what we try to live each day,
Then we’ll all live together and we’ll all learn to say….
As we are fast approaching the holiday season this is an opportunity for all of us to remember that it is the simple gifts that mean the most. Thank you to our Sacajawea Community for the simple gifts of your support, partnership, commitment, compassion, understanding, hard work and generous spirit. We are grateful for each and every one of you.
Have a wonderful holiday break!
Travis Bond, Principal

Book Fair
It's BOOKFAIR time! Click on this link to the Sacajawea Book Fair page:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/sacajaweaelementaryschool1
The book fair is a chance for students to select and purchase books they are interested in reading. You can set up a cashless eWallet account for your student(s) so that they don't have to keep track of cash. Use the link above to set up the eWallet account. When they make a purchase with eWallet they only need to provide their name (it's that easy).
The book fair is open to students during lunch recess from Monday December 6-Friday December 10, and to families after school on Thursday December 9 from 3pm-5pm.
This is a great chance to purchase books as holiday gifts. Every purchase is credited toward new books for the Sacajawea library. Thank you for supporting our student community!

Free After School Dance Sessions
During this FREE program, students hone their technical and creative skills as dancers. Students in the program are able to learn specific styles of dance. Not only do students get to explore the technique of dance, but they also have the opportunity to create dances with other students. Students are encouraged to collaborate while exploring and choreographing based on various stimuli. It is an amazing experience for students to work with students from other schools who share their love for dance. At the end of the sessions the students have a chance to show their families what they learned and perform to a real audience.
The program is open to students in grades 3-8. Classes are one hour once a week. Students should wear com-fortable clothing that allows them to move freely. Special dance shoes are not necessary, but students may wear them if they wish.
Winter Session Dates:
Wed, January 26, 2022 – March 16, 2022
5:00 - 6:00 pm @ Vancouver School of Arts and Academics
To apply all interested students and parents should submit Registration and Consent/Medical Forms by Friday, January 14, 2022. Families will receive a confirmation email with further details about attendance, attire, etc.
